Mary Jane Mucklestone

Living on the coast of Maine, The Fourth of July is a family favorite. Leaving early, we fill the lobster boats with kids and food and head out for a nearby island. We dig clams to add to the load of lobsters and corn-on-the-cob, all served on a bed of seaweed. Some years the wild strawberries are so thick, you get stained just sitting in the grass. Screaming dips in the icy water, games of pirates and survivor, seaweed monster children, we return only as the sun is setting, zipping across the bay, salty, tired and happy.
