I have scored plenty of awesome souvenirs, sure—a red squirrel resin necklace from Ohio, handspun alpaca from Vashon Island, WA—but I love it when I can spend a day doing the exact same things I love to do on a normal weekend at home. That means going for a walk and exploring grocery aisles, movie theaters, crafty boutiques and coffee shops. Living like a local in a totaly foreign place heightens all my senses and renews my appreciation for lovely quotidian routines. And bonus, I get to people watch!!
