My favorite comfort food changes with the season. In the colder months, I like stews and roasts, with lots of potatoes, vegetables, and a side of thick crusty bread with butter. Recently I made a beef stew with dark beer. The medley of the meat, herbs, and beer creates a very comforting flavor.
