If circumstances are dire, food is not a comfort to me—I lose my appetite and probably want nothing more than a hot cup of sweet, milky tea. But for comfort in the sense of arriving home on a dark, wet, cold evening to find dinner being prepared, I’ll gladly have chicken parmesan with fresh pasta, steamed green beans, sautéd red peppers, some garlic bread and a glass of red wine.
