Next to my front stoop is my favorite plant in the whole garden. I have no idea what its scientific name is, I only know it as a moon blossom. When I was seven, our neighbor gave us a plant as a welcome gift, and when I bought a home of my own, my mother gave me some from her garden. It doesn’t look like much during the day, a bit like a dandelion that’s seen better days. But as its flowers start to open, like a time-lapse video, you understand how it got its name; the yellow petals seem to glow in the fading light. In the summer, we sit and watch the moon blossoms in our garden, and for a few minutes the world seems to stand still.
