Faux Bois Twisted traveling stitches in stranded color work. Scarf is knit in the round, steeked, and finished with applied fabric lining.

Finished measurements: Mittens – 10 ¼” / 26 cm from edge to tip and 8” / 20.5 cm around; Scarf - 8”x 69” / 20.5 x 175 cm

Yarn: Harrisville New England Knitters Highland (100% Wool; 200 yds/183 m per 3.5 oz / 100g skein); Mittens - 1 skein each of colors #8 Hemlock (CC) and #37 Cocoa (MC); Scarf - 1 skein color #8 Hemlock (CC) and 2 skeins #37 Cocoa (MC)

Note on yarn quantity: If knitting only the scarf, you may want to purchase an extra skein of the CC, as it will be very close with only 1 skein. If you’re knitting both projects, you will have plenty of yarn if you purchase the quantity listed, as the mittens used far less of the CC.


Needles and Notions:
Mittens - size 4 US (3.5mm) and size 6 US (4 mm) double pointed needles; scrap yarn for thumb placement; Scarf - size 8 US (5mm) double pointed needles; sharp sewing needle; tapestry needle; hand-washable backing fabric measuring approx. 8” x 69” / 20.5 x 175 cm (sample used 2 pieces raw silk fabric; 8” / 20.5 cm wide and 34 ½” / 88 cm long; seamed at center to create one long piece); matching thread; fabric scissors; steam iron

Gauge: Mittens - 22 sts. and 30 rows = 4” / 10 cm in colorwork pattern on size 6 US (4mm ) needles. 18 sts. x 28 rows = 4” in Stockinette st. Scarf - 19 sts and 19 rows = 4” in colorwork pattern on size 8 US (5mm) needles. 16 sts and 24 rows = 4” in Stockinette st.
