This hat and mitten set is worked in the round from the cuff to the tip using the stranded colorwork technique. The mittens feature afterthought thumbs. The color patterns are given in chart form only.

Lost City Knits Foothills Fingering (560 yd / 521 m per 4 oz / 113 g skein; 100% Merino Wool):
1 skein each in Rumplestiltskin (A), Natural (B), and Cocksure (C)

One skein of each color will make both the hat and the pair of mittens.

Needles & Notions:
Mittens:
Size 2 US / 2.75 mm needles in preferred style for small circumference knitting in the round

Hat:
Size 1 ½ US / 2.5 mm circular needle, 16" / 40 cm long
Size 2 ½ US / 3 mm circular needle, 16" / 40 cm long and needles in preferred style for small circumference knitting in the round

Stitch markers, waste yarn, pom pom maker (optional)

Gauge:
Mittens:
35 sts and 42 rows = 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch over Chart A

Hat:
32 sts and 38 rows = 4" / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch over Chart A using larger needles, after blocking
40 sts and 48 rows = 4" / 10 cm in Twisted Rib using smaller needles, after blocking without stretching
