Sylvi Creates a Stir

Twist Collective Art Director Irene Vandervoort received a lot of attention during our visit to the New York Sheep and Wool Festival, aka "Rhinebeck", a few weeks ago. Irene was handing out Twist buttons and postcards, but it was probably the hand knit coat in red Briggs and Little Atlantic yarn she was wearing that caused the biggest stir. Called "Sylvi", the pattern by Mari Muinonen is featured in the winter edition of the magazine, available now.

On Location

The sweaters from both fall and winter issues have been on display in a few New England yarn stores in recent weeks.  The Yarn and Fiber Company of Derry, New Hampshire filmed an impromptu fashion show and posted the video on their website, and Yarn in the Farms of Beverly, Massachusetts held a holiday trunk show and took oodles of pictures of the festivities that they posted on their shop blog here

On January 10, The Stitch House in Dorcester, Massachusetts will host a Twist Collective fashion show, from 12 to 4 pm featuring 22 designs from both issues.  Features Director Julia Farwell-Clay will offer commentary, and be on hand afterward to answer technical questions, and to offer advice on yarn choices.  Drop a line to RSVP.  More viewings of the knits are in the works, so check the blog for announcements.

Designer News

books

Amy O'Neill Houck, our crochet expert in the winter issue, knows her way around the knitting needles too. Her new book, Knits for Bears to Wear, is just out this month from Potter Craft. Rosemary Hill also is publishing a delicious book with Interweave Press this month, Elements of Style: Creating Jewelry with Fiber, Wire, Felt and Beads. Present one or both to a knitter you love, or use the books as inspiration for holiday gifts.

Caring For Others

Twist Collective is pleased to announce our support of Sustainable Harvest International's Gift of Hope, a micro loan program to provide women with materials to start their small sewing and handicraft businesses in Guatemala and Honduras. Look for the SHI ad in the winter issue, or learn more today about SHI's progress in sustainable farming progress and educational programs in Central America at their website.

Yours in stitches,
