Every Friday we feature one of the garments from the magazine in a post about styling. We suggest different ways to wear the garment in question using mock-ups from Polyvore. We encourage readers to tell us what they think about these outfits via our Facebook page or Twitter, and if folks want to make their own outfits, please tweet them at us with the hashtag #twiststyle. You can find all of the Style Friday posts here.
Last week I found myself somewhat hurriedly packing a bag to head to Florida for a funeral. A pretty substantial branch of my extended family lives in Miami, and they lost their patriarch. Because I'm a weirdo and an overthinker, I had a hard time deciding what to bring. Most of my clothes are loud. I wear bright colors and silly patterns. As I write this I am wearing a shirt emblazoned all over with tiny sharks. It was hard for me to find something appropriate. In my day to day life, appropriateness isn't something I especially value, and so it was a little confusing for me to realize, while rolling shirts into efficiently packable cylinders, that I wanted to conform for this occasion. This week has been a big one for mourning, between celebrities and people in my own family and communities. Look out for each other, okay?
What we wear informs how we feel, who we hold in our hearts, where we fit in, and what we hope for. Getting dressed is a tiny ritual, and we are always casting little spells for what we hope a day will bring.
If i had this sweater, I would be wearing it right now. Chroming totally gets me. She is simple, but not boring; Cozy, but not frumpy. The cable reminds me of hearts, or a long braid.
How will you wear Chroming?
