Marnie MacLean is today's featured designer in our Five for Five interview series; follow the whole series here. Marnie has contributed a whopping nineteen patterns to our pages, and we are so so glad. Her work is effortless and intricate at the same time, making her designs fun to make and easy to wear. We heart her.
If I leave a project for more than a week or two, it’s as good as frogged. I just can’t get my mojo back for something that has been sitting around too long.
2. Why are you a designer?
Dirty little secret, I really dislike having to match someone else’s gauge. So much easier to just write a pattern around whatever gauge I get. Don’t tell anyone.
3. What's your favorite design you did for Twist Collective? Why?
Well, it hasn’t been my most popular design, by a long shot, but I always really loved Bijou and hoped it would someday find its audience. But if I were going by popularity alone, Pas de Valse has been my a great success and I’ve loved seeing all the variations people have made.
4. Name one of your guilty pleasures.
I don’t have much time for it anymore, but I used to love playing RPG video games. I have spent more hours working my way through Final Fantasy than I care to recount. This is off the record, right?
5. Finish this sentence: If everyone knew how to knit...
Maybe designers could be paid like doctors, or at least like plumbers, heck, minimum wage wouldn’t be so bad.
