The body of this cardigan begins with a cable band which is worked in two halves, each worked from a provisional cast-on at the center back to the front edges; the lower front corners are shaped with miters, then stitches are picked up across the band and the body is worked to the underarms, with shaped underarm gussets. The sleeves are worked in a similar fashion, with stitches picked up from a cabled band worked in two halves from a provisional cast-on. The sleeves are worked back and forth until the miters are nearly complete, then joined to work in the round to the underarm, with shaped underarm gussets. The body and sleeve gusset stitches are placed on hold and the pieces are joined for the yoke, then worked in one piece to the neck with raglan shaping. From the live neck stitches, the hood is worked to the top, with short-row shaping to shape the center top. The sides of the hood are worked separately across half of the center stitches until they meet in the center, where they are grafted together using Kitchener stitch. The cable patterns are given in chart form only.
